Anda Tidak Sakit Tapi Anda Dahaga!

"You are not sick; you are thirsty.Don't treat thirst with medication"-kata Dr. Batmanghelidj.

"I have seen water completely reverse conditions such as: Asthma. Angina. Hypertension. Migraine headaches. Arthritis pain. Back pain. Colitis pain and chronic constipation. Heartburn and hiatal hernia. Depression. Chronic fatigue syndrome. High cholesterol. Morning sickness. Overweight problems. Even heart problems needing bypass surgery.
All these disease conditions responded simply and permanently to water. Ordinary water. Any water you feel comfortable to drink. Clean tap water is as good as any..."-Dr. Batmanghelidj

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

Remember that, we live not just in our physical but in at least four different realms ie mental, emotional, spiritual (the 'inner' world') and physical (the 'outer' world).

Anything wrong with our inner world will be manifested in our physical counterpart. If we get a disease ( a physical manifestation), that means there must be something wrong in our inner part.Got it?

So treatment of any diseases (especially the chronic ones) must address the 'root' issue ie exploring one's mental, spiritual and emotional diagnoses before looking hard for physical diagnosis. Well, that is all about holistic medicine, my frens

The problem with modern allopathic medicine healers is they are mainly concern on the diagnosis and treatment of the physical part. Not to say it is not important, but this is at best serves as a 'quick fix' and 'superficial' method of healing. No wonder, despite all the modern technologies and 'wonder' drugs, chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, cancer etc etc are on alarming rate, all this while. We are at the tip the of iceberg!

It is the time we go back to the basics!

It is only now found that emotion plays a greater role in disease causation, contrary to the old thoughts!. Some experts believe that emotional issues are the main cause of 85% of all illnesses.

Imagine if we can treat this 'emotional' cause of diseases as mentioned above! how many cases of diabetes, cancer, heart attack, depression, anxiety, migraine,SLE etc can be prevented or even cured??

Thanks to Gary Craig who founded and popularize EFT-emotional freedom technique and I found that this is very interesting.

EFT works by 'unblocking' the flow of bioenergy through meridian channels in our body. This blockage of bioenergy is caused by our emotional stress and this leads to body illnesses.

EFT is very simple to learn and done. It is actually done by tapping various parts of your body with your fingers in the correct sequence while thinking and saying a specific empowering phrase. (Depends on which area of your life you want to work on). You can literally learn it in a couple of minutes and you can do it literally everywhere.

Fasting For Medical Patients: Suggested Guidelines

As mentioned earlier, patients are exempt from fasting. But some, for whatever reasons, do decide to observe fasting. For physicians treating Muslim patients, the following guidelines are suggested.

a. Diabetic Patients: Diabetics who are controlled by diet alone can fast and hopefully with weight reduction, their diabetes may even be cured or at least improved. Diabetics who are taking oral hypoglycemia agents like Daonil along with the diet should exercise extreme caution if they decide to fast. They should reduce their dose to one-third, and take the drug not in the morning, but with Iftar in the evening. If they develop low blood sugar symptoms in the day time, they should break the fast immediately. Diabetics taking insulin should not fast. If they do, at their own risk, they should do so under close supervision and make drastic changes in the insulin dose. For example, eliminate regular insulin altogether and take only NPH in divided doses after Iftar or before Sahar. Diabetics, if they fast, should still take a diabetic diet during Iftar, Sahar and dinner. The sweet snacks common in Ramadan are not good for their disease. they should check their blood sugar before breakfast and after ending their fast.

b. Hypertensive or Cardiac Patients: Those who have mild to moderate high blood pressure along with being overweight should be encouraged to fast, since fasting may help to lower their blood pressure. They should see their physician to adjust medicines. for example, the dose of water pill (diuretic) should be reduced for fear of dehydration and long acting agents like Inderal LA or Tenormin can be given once a day before Sahar. Those with severe hypertension or heart diseases should not fast at all.

c. Those with Migraine Headache: Even in tension headache, dehydration, or low blood sugar will aggravate the symptoms, but in migraine during fasting, there is an increase in blood free fatty acids, which will directly affect the severity or precipitation of migraine through release of catecholamines. Patients with migraines are advised not to fast.

d. Pregnant Women (Normal Pregnancy): This is not an easy situation. Pregnancy is not a medical illness, therefore, the same exemption does not apply. There is no mention of such exemption in Quran. However, the Prophet said the pregnant and nursing women do not fast. This is in line with God not wanting anyone, even a small fetus, to suffer. There is no way of knowing, the damage to the unborn child until the delivery, and that might be too late. In my humble opinion, during the first and third trimester (three months) women should not fast. If however, Ramadan happens to come during the second trimester (4th-6th months) of pregnancy, a women may elect to fast provided that (1) her own health is good, and (2) it is done with the permission of her obstetrician and under close supervision. The possible damage to the fetus may not be from malnutrition provided the Iftar and Sahar are adequate, but from dehydration, from prolonged (10-14 hours) abstinence from water.
Therefore it is recommended that Muslim patients if they do fast,do so under medical supervision.

Migraine revisited (2)-the role of nutrients in treatment

To minimize the frequency of migraine attacks, migraine triggers need to be identified and avoided .It is recommended that migraine sufferers stop smoking, get sufficient sleep (but not oversleep because oversleep may serve as a migraine trigger), and minimize stress. Nutrients that may be effective prophylactic agents for migraine include the following:

Magnesium

Studies have shown that up to 50 percent of migraine patients suffer from magnesium deficiencies during an acute attack.take magnesium citrate 160-mg capsules at night before bed

butterbur herb

Butterbur root.
Several studies found butterbur root ( Petasites hybridus) is an effective prophylactic (pencegahan) agent for migraine.take 50 milligrams (mg) up to three times daily

feverfew herb

Feverfew.
Feverfew ( Tanacetum parthenium) preparations have been studied for migraine prophylaxis in several trials.take 100 mg daily

Riboflavin.
Riboflavin (vitamin B 2) has been used as a prophylactic measure for migraine.take 100 to 200 mg daily with food.

Coenzyme Q10.
Several studies have demonstrated effectiveness of coenzyme Q10 in reducing the frequency of migraine headaches.take 100 mg up to three times daily

S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe). generally, between 400 mg and 1600 mg orally daily

Probiotics—3.5 billion of Lactobacillus group, 1 billion of Bifidobacterium group, and 0.5 billion of Streptococcus thermophilus.

Migraine revisited (1)

My brother, Abg Wa just now sms me asking for any better treatment for his wife, Kak Nina who's sufferring from recurrent chronic headache, presumably migraine. she also has hypertension. for the past few days, I have touched on migraine treatment from acupressure to meditation, affirmation, visualisation etc (hollistic approached). I think its better now if I can summarize it and start from the basic, ie what is migraine, the precipitating factors, modern treatment, useful herbal, vitamins etc. Other readers spt Farahish Yang Baik hati might also find its useful.:)I'll start with migraine from modern view first..

So what is migraine?

Migraine headaches are usually classified as either common migraine or classic migraine. A classic migraine is preceded by an aura with characteristic visual (penglihatan), sensory (rasa), or motor (pergerakan) symptoms. Aura usually includes visual abnormalities (e.g., flashes, shimmering, and other hallucinations that seem to migrate through the visual field) and neurological abnormalities such as tingling sensations (rasa kebas-kebas)

Migraine attacks often include features that occur in sequence, including the following:

Prodrome. This stage is marked by a change in mood that begins hours or days before the headache. Symptoms of prodrome include depression, sleepiness, talkativeness, restlessness, or other alterations

Aura. Aura is characterized by visual abnormalities, including flashes, shimmering, and other hallucinations.

Headache phase. The headache itself is typically one sided but may affect both sides of the head. It is usually gradual in onset, moderate to severe in pain intensity, throbbing (berdenyut), and worse with physical exertion, and it can last anywhere from 2 hours to 2 days in children and 4 hours to 3 days in adults . The frequency of migraine attacks is unpredictable. The headache stage is often accompanied by loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, blurred vision, tenderness of the scalp or neck, lightheadedness, sweating, and pallor

Migraines are about three times as common in women as in men.The frequency of migraine headaches appears to increase with age, with peak frequency in women during their 30s and 40s and in men during their 30s, and then seems to decrease. Among some women, migraines decrease in severity or disappear entirely during menopause. Clearly, migraine's close correlation with sexual maturity and menopause in women suggests that steroid hormones are involved in the disease

Migraine headaches also tend to run in families, and there is a definite genetic predisposition . More than 50 percent of migraine sufferers have a relative who also suffers from migraine

Migraine Triggers

Several lifestyle factors may trigger a migraine headache

-Lack of sleep
-Consumption of alcohol, especially red wine and beer
-Excessive exercise
-Consumption of foods containing monosodium glutamate or nitrates
-Consumption of other potential food triggers, including chocolates, aged cheese, dairy foods, caffeine, fermented or pickled foods, shellfish, and wheat
-Emotional stress
-Use of certain medications may trigger a migraine - these include the following:
----Birth control pills or conventional hormone replacement therapy with synthetic estrogens and progestins
---Drugs that dilate the blood vessels, such as Viagra ® (sildenafil)
---Antimigraine drugs used excessively, which can cause rebound migraine
-Migraines also may be triggered by the overreaction of blood vessels to a variety of factors:

------Menstruation
------Fatigue
------Changes in altitude, weather, or time zone
------Glaring lights
------Perfumes or other powerful odors
------Head trauma

Conventional Treatment of Migraine

Generally speaking, conventional treatment of migraine follows one of three approaches—all of which may be used in the same patient. The first is prevention of migraines; the second is stopping a migraine as it is beginning; and the third is to lessen the pain of an ongoing migraine attack. In each approach, certain drugs have been shown to be effective

Drugs used to abort fledgling migraines or treat the pain associated with migraines include the following:

-5-HT (serotonin receptor) agonists (triptans) eg sumatriptan

-Ergot alkaloids and ergot derivatives eg cafergot

-Painkillers and painkiller combination drugs

-Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs eg voltaren, ponstan, synflex etc

-Opiate analgesics. eg morphine

-Antiemetics (penahan muntah)

-Corticosteroids.

-Botox

Prophylactic drugs (ubat pencegah) must be taken daily, and there is usually a lag of two to six weeks before the effect is felt . Drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration to prevent migraines include propanolol, timolol, sodium valproate, methysergide, verapamil, and amitriptyline. The probability of success with any drug is about 50 percent to 75 percent, so it is not unusual for drugs to be rotated until an effective one is found.
