Vitamin B17: The Cancer Buster that is kept a secret

Vitamin B17 is found in almost all fruit seeds such as the apple, peach, cherry, orange, nectarine and apricot, as well as some beans and many grasses such as wheat grass. The seeds of these fruits (particularly apricots) hold the source of one of the most important nutrients known to man. It is one of the main food sources in cultures such as the Navajo Indians, the Himalayan Hunzas and the Abkhasians. Did you know that within these tribes there has never been a reported case of cancer? Research has shown that these tribes never contract cancer or suffer from heart disease if they stick to their native diet, which is exceptionally high in both apricots and millet.

Vitamin B17: A Brief History of Oppression

Vitamin B17, also known as Amygdalin or Laetrile, is basically a glycoside (certain molecules in which a sugar part is bound to some other part). Initially, it was isolated from the seeds of the tree Prunus dulcis, also known as bitter almonds (banned from the US in 1995), by Pierre-Jean Robiquet and A. F. Boutron-Charlard, in 1803 and was followed by a thorough investigation of the glycoside, by Liebig and Wöhler, in 1830.

During 1950 after many years of research, a dedicated biochemist Dr. Ernst T. Krebs, Jr. isolated a new vitamin that he numbered B17 and called 'Laetrile'. Thousands became convinced that Dr. Krebs had finally found the complete control for all cancers, a conviction shared by even more people today. But back in 1950 Dr. Krebs had no idea of the hornet's nest he was about to stir up.

How do we get cancer in the first place? - through exposure to cigarette smoking, intense sunlight or perhaps the effect of toxic food additives? According to Dr. Krebs neither is the case. His hard biochemical evidence points to the fact that cancer is a simple deficiency disease of vitamin B17, long ago removed from our highly refined western diets. Dr. Krebs suggests that the so-called 'carcinogens' (substances, radionuclide or radiation that are agents directly involved in the promotion of cancer) are merely stress triggers, which finally expose the B17 deficiency with devastating effects: cancer.

The proof Dr. Krebs has presented over the years to support his claim of 'lost' B17 in our diets is impressive. For example, centuries ago, we used to eat millet and linseed bread rich in B17, but now we chew our way through wheat bread which has none at all. Generations ago we used to crush the seeds of plums, cherries, apples and apricots with our home made jams and preserves. Thus, B17 was part of daily diets and guess what... Centuries ago there was a lot less cancer around, if any at all...

Vitamin B17 at work

Vitamin B17 is harmless to healthy tissue for a very simple reason. Each molecule of B17 contains one unit of cyanide, one unit of benzaldehyde and two of glucose (sugar) tightly locked together. In order for the cyanide to become dangerous it is necessary to first 'unlock' the molecule to release it. This can only be performed by an enzyme called beta-glucosidase, which is present all over the human body in minute quantities. However, beta-glucosidase is present in vast quantities (up to 100 times as high) at only one place: the site of a malignant cancer tumour. Thus, the cyanide is unlocked only at the cancer site with drastic results, which become utterly devastating to the cancer cells because the benzaldehyde unit unlocks at the same time.
Benzaldehyde is a deadly poison in its own right, which then acts synergistically with the cyanide to produce a poison 100 times more deadly than either in isolation. The combined effect on the cancer cells is best left to the imagination.

Back to the attack

Unable to patent B17 or claim exclusive rights to the vitamin, the pharmaceutical multinationals launched a massive propaganda attack of unprecedented viciousness against Laetrile, despite the fact that hard proof of its efficiency in controlling cancer was everywhere (and still is).
Dr. Kreb's B17 Laetrile was derived from apricot kernels and then synthesized into crystalline form using his own unique process. Out of the blue, the American Food and Drug Administration bombarded the media with a story about an unfortunate couple who had poisoned themselves by eating raw apricot kernels in San Francisco. The story made headline news across the US but strangely journalists never managed to establish the identity of the unfortunate couple, despite many determined attempts. But the multinational pharmaceutical/FDA boot had been put in with a vengeance. From that point onwards, eating apricot kernels or B17 Laetrile became synonymous with committing suicide.

You can only guess what happened next after the FDA and pharmaceutical multinationals started pouncing on the claims of vitamin B17... Yes, demands were made for government studies to be conducted and the results of these studies showed that evidence for the benefits of B17 as a cancer treatment were ‘inconclusive’ or not ‘comprehensive’ and it became a case of ‘same old story, same old song’.

Unfortunately, most governments have buckled under the pressure exerted by the pharmaceutical multinationals, the FDA, and the American Medical Association (AMA). All three have mounted highly successful 'scare' campaigns based on the fact that vitamin B17 contains quantities of 'deadly' cyanide; conveniently forgetting that vitamin B12 also contains large quantities of cyanide but is freely available in health food shops world-wide...
Join me next week when the story of vitamin B17 continues and I will tell you all about Laetrile Therapy as well as good food sources of B17 and how to source B17 supplements

Papaya is the Health Fruit of Angels

Papaya is called fruit of the angels by Conquistadors because of its heavenly taste. In its prime, it is a cerise-orange colored, unbelievably juicy fruit with an aroma to match its heavenly taste. Not only is papaya beautiful, fragrant and luscious, it is amazingly healthful!

How fortunate that this glorious fruit is available year-round. Although a native of the tropics, papaya trees produce fruit all year long and are now produced in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. A ripe papaya can be as long as twenty inches, but most commercially grown fruits are pear-shaped, about seven inches in length and about a pound in weight.

It is high in bromelain, which makes it beneficial in ways similar to pineapple. Since it loses nutrient strength as it ripens, papaya is best if purchased mostly ripe and eaten by the next day. Purchase fruit that is orangey-red in color and just a little soft to touch. Fruits that have yellow patches are less ripe and will take a few days at home to become their best. The seeds of a papaya are small, round and black in color. Although they are edible, they have a bitter, peppery flavor that few people seem to find enjoyable.

Papaya can be eaten for its digestive and heart health properties. Externally, it is used in anti-aging products and both the skin and pulp are valuable as healing agents. After a course of antibiotic therapy, papaya juice will rapidly return the intestinal bacteria count to normal. It is especially rich in Vitamin C and carotene.

More unusual, but very valuable is its high arginine, papain and carpain contents. Arginine is known to be good for male fertility, while papain is a proteolytic enzyme. This means papain can break down protein, making it valuable as a meat tenderizer. Carpain is an enzyme considered to be good for the heart.

Papaya also contains fibrin, a rarity in the plant world. In humans, fibrin is an essential part of the blood clotting process.Although further study needs to be done, early findings lead to the belief that papaya may prevent diabetic heart disease. It is high in fiber, which helps to lower cholesterol.

A very special ability of the fiber contained in papaya is that it can bind cancer causing toxins to it, preventing them from binding to cells in the colon. For individuals with a family history of colon cancer, papaya may be an important dietary addition.Another promising finding is that men who ate lycopene-rich foods are less likely to develop prostate cancer. Papaya is one of the high lycopene fruits, easy to eat and easy to obtain in today's markets.Papaya is a great addition to any meal or snack. Chunks of fresh papaya are terrific in cereal or in smoothies.

Ulasan Buku-"Quranic Law of Attraction"

'Law of Attraction' (Hukum Tarikan) tulisan Michael J. Losier (2007) telah saya postkan dalam entry terdahulu.

Basically LOA mengatakan "like attracts like" atau "You get what you put your energy and focus on, whether wanted or unwanted"

Syabas Sdr Rusdin!

To Test or Not to Test: Guidelines for testing health conditions

Screening tests that can detect disease in its early stages can save millions in medical costs and priceless amounts of pain and heartache. But who needs what? And when?
Here are some guidelines for testing for various health conditions:

Men

Abdominal aortic aneurysm: A man between the ages of 65 and 75 who has smoked at least 100 cigarettes should have a single ultrasound screening of the abdominal aorta.

Colorectal cancer: The typical age to begin screening is 50. Doctors recommend annual testing for fecal occult blood, a test which is done with stool cards at home, and colonoscopies every 10 years if tests results are normal. Doctors don't usually order colonoscopies for people over age 85 because the stress of the test could offset its benefits.

Diabetes: Men who develop high blood pressure or high cholesterol should then be tested for diabetes.

Depression: Men who feel sad or hopeless over a period of several weeks or receive little pleasure from things they once enjoyed should ask to be screened for depression.

High cholesterol: Testing should begin for most men at age 35. Younger men who smoke, have a history of heart disease in their families, have diabetes or high blood pressure should talk to their doctors about administering a cholesterol test before they reach 35.

High blood pressure: Anyone 18 or older should be screened for high blood pressure at least once a year.

HIV: Men should discuss the need for HIV testing if they have done any of the following: Had sex with men since 1975; had unprotected sex with multiple partners; injected drugs; exchanged sex for money or drugs; or had sex with anyone who is bisexual, has HIV, or has injected drugs; or had a blood transfusion between 1978 and 1985.

Prostate cancer: Digital rectal exams or a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test should be administered yearly starting at age 50. Men who are at high risk for prostate cancer -- those who have had a father or brother develop prostate cancer before the age of 65, and black men, whose rates of prostate cancer are high -- should begin testing at age 40. Because prostate cancer grows so slowly in older men, doctors recommend that annual testing stop after age 75.

Sexually transmitted infections: Men should discuss the need to be tested for gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia or other sexually transmitted diseases with their doctors.

Women

Breast cancer: Have a mammogram every one to two years between the ages of 40 and 50 and an annual mammogram after 50. Women with a history of breast cancer in their families should have a baseline mammogram at age 35 and begin annual screening at 40 or 50. A woman who has a relative who developed breast cancer before menopause should have a baseline mammogram 10 years younger than the age of that relative.

Cervical cancer: Women should have a Pap smear every one to three years, beginning at age 18 or within three years of starting sexual activity. Most women have an annual pap smear and should continue to do so until they have had three normal pap smears in a row and are in a stable sexual relationship. Women who have a lifetime history of normal pap smears may want to talk with their doctors about discontinuing them after age 65. Most experts recommend discontinuing pap smears after removal of the uterus and cervix for reasons other than cancer, if previous pap smears have been normal.

Chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases: Women should be tested for chlamydia if they are 25 or younger and are sexually active. Older women should discuss being tested for chlamydia and other sexually transmitted diseases with their doctors.

Colorectal cancer: Same as men.

Diabetes: Same as men.

Depression: Same as men.

High cholesterol: Women should start having regular cholesterol checks at 45. Those who are younger than 45 should talk to their doctors about cholesterol checks if they smoke, have diabetes, have high blood pressure or have heart disease in their families.

High blood pressure: Women should have their blood pressure checked at least every two years.

HIV: Women should be tested for these reasons: if they are pregnant; had sex for money or had sex partners who did; have used needles to inject drugs; have had unprotected sex with multiple partners; have had sex with partners who are bisexual, used needles to inject drugs or who have HIV; if they are undergoing treatment for sexually transmitted diseases; or had a blood transfusion between 1978 and 1985.

Osteoporosis: Women should have a bone-density test at age 65. Women who weigh 154 pounds or less should talk to their doctors about being tested between the ages of 60 and 64.

Healing the Broken Brain Syndrome

In an exclusive interview with Life Extension magazine, Dr. Hyman, who is the founder and medical director of the UltraWellness Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, talks about his remarkable findings. He explains how problems of the brain, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disease, attention deficit disorder (ADD), Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and mood swings can be prevented, improved, or even cured by his innovative program of diet, nutritional supplements, exercise, meditation, and lifestyle changes. Dr. Hyman’s findings are a harbinger of a new approach to dealing with what he calls “broken brains,” representing a more natural, healthy, and effective method that might one day make traditional psychiatric medication and treatment obsolete.

Why Functional Medicine?

Referring to the widespread incidence and exorbitant cost of treating mental disorders, Dr. Hyman explains that, “Functional medicine is a map or model for addressing a chronic disease epidemic which affects over half of Americans and costs 80% of our health care dollars.” He says that while conventional methods are effective for acute illness, they simply do not do the job with chronic disease.
“We need to change access to health care and create improved coverage for our population,” he adds, “But we have to change the type of health care we have access to.”
Dr. Hyman says that functional medicine grows out of Western science and predicts, “It will reinvigorate primary care medicine and provide success, where today there is mostly failure, in addressing the epidemic of chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes, obesity, autoimmune disease, digestive problems, and brain and mood disorders.”
He does not reject scientific medicine and, in fact, the future of scientific medicine is functional medicine. Dr. Hyman also distinguishes functional medicine from alternative or integrative medicine.
The key difference lies in functional medicine’s focus on finding the root causes of an individual’s health problems, as opposed to a focus on prescribing alternative treatments such as acupuncture or biofeedback for conventional symptom-based diagnoses.

The aim, he says, “Is to navigate through the maze of chronic disease and understand the very few basic things that can go wrong, that can cause a myriad of symptoms and be easily corrected by addressing the root. So if you have depression because you have a vitamin B12 deficiency, or you have a food allergy or you have mercury poisoning or your thyroid is not functioning properly or you’ve had some psychological trauma, each one of these things is different and needs a different treatment.”

The Epidemic of Emotional Disorders and Their Causes

“We have 1.1 billion people in the world with mood problems or cognitive disorders,” explains Dr. Hyman. “One in 10 Americans is on antidepressants, one in 10 children are on stimulant medication, and one in four people will be affected by major depression during their lifetime. Today, we have a chance to fundamentally address the causes. This has never really been possible before, because we never understood how biology works and how it all fits together.”
As he explains in The UltraMind Solution,
“There are only a few, common underlying mechanisms responsible for all disease. Our diet is becoming increasingly toxic, our environment is increasingly toxic, we have significant nutritional imbalances and deficiencies, and we’re under constant stress.
The results weigh on us day after day after day.” He adds that while we cannot escape exposure to all environmental toxins, we can avoid many in food, water, and pesticides.
“The average person consumes a gallon of neurotoxic pesticides a year,” Dr. Hyman remarks, “And there are 3,500 different additives put into our food supply.”

In his new book, he explains that the old idea that the blood-brain barrier acts as an impenetrable shield against harmful elements is no longer sufficient. “What I found,” he says, “Much to my surprise, was that when I treated people for problems with insulin, or when I treated food allergies or when I got people detoxed from heavy metals, their mental problems also went away. Their mood got better, their depression lifted, their dementia reversed. There were children with autism who began to talk again and others I treated for asthma or allergies who suddenly found their attention deficit disorder (ADD) went away. They went from having brain chaos to having healthy inner brain function. And I said, ‘Wow, what’s going on here?’”

Does Everyone Need Supplements?

Dr. Hyman writes that if people “eat wild, fresh, organic, local, non-genetically modified food grown in virgin mineral- and nutrient-rich soils that has not been transported across vast distances and stored for months before being eaten... and work and live outside, breathe only fresh unpolluted air, drink only pure, clean water, sleep nine hours a night, move their bodies every day, and are free from chronic stressors and exposure to environmental toxins,” then, perhaps, they might not need supplements.

For the rest of us, whom he considers to be all of us, supplements are an absolute necessity. His book lists daily nutrients that he considers basic for everyone, including vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, carotenoids, biotin, choline, and inositol; macrominerals calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and sulfur; trace minerals copper, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, vanadium, zinc, boron, chromium, and silicon; essential amino acids tryptophan, meth-ionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, and lysine; and essential fatty acids linoleic acid, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
“Think of nutrients as fertilizer for your brain,” Dr. Hyman says. “Think of them as little helpers that improve communications and connections.” He believes that approximately 80% of us will do well and maintain a healthy brain on basic supplements (combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet), including a high-quality multivitamin; calcium and magnesium; vitamin D3, omega-3 fatty acids; probiotics; and the methylation factors folic acid, B6, and B12.

Better Diet, Better Brain

Dr. Hyman has a simple two-fold approach for improving both brain and body: take out the bad stuff and put in the good stuff. He pinpoints a few dietary elements as causes of major mental and physical problems, urging us to eliminate them from our menu: gluten and dairy, which he calls “staples of our American diet;” sugar and high-fructose corn syrup; trans or hydrogenated fats, which he calls “markers of poor quality food;” and artificial sweeteners.

“Hidden food allergies are a major unrecognized epidemic in the twenty-first century,” he asserts, adding that most of us fail to make the connection between what we eat and what we feel.
“Optimal nutrition is the most important factor in keeping your brain healthy,” says Dr. Hyman. “Feeding your brain is not something most of us know how to do.” He explains that most doctors know little or nothing about proper nutrition, something that is slowly beginning to change, as it becomes more evident that “vitamins and minerals are so essential for brain function and health.”
Pinpointing carbohydrates as “the single most important food for long-term health and brain function,” Dr. Hyman advises eating “real, whole food as it comes from the earth,” including fresh vegetables, fruit, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, herbs, and spices, and lean animal protein such as fish, chicken, and eggs.
Ideally, should we eat only organic food? “It’s preferable,” he responds, “But not necessary. If it’s a choice of eating organic or getting off gluten and dairy, get off the gluten and dairy.” He also advises eating food that is as low as possible in pesticides, and recommends checking the website of the Environmental Working Group (http://www.lef.org/www.ewg.org), which lists the latest figures on amounts of pesticides in foods.

Important Lifestyle Factors

As part of his program, Dr. Hyman emphasizes the need to confront the harm that daily stress does to our minds and bodies (which includes increasing levels of cortisol), and to be proactive in diminishing this contributor to “broken brains.” He mentions the importance of a good night’s sleep, noting findings that Americans are sleep-deprived, which can have a powerful effect on brain function. As an example, he points to indicated links between sleep deprivation and Alzheimer’s disease.

'He also recommends regular meditation, which improves mood and cognitive function, yoga, deep breathing, laughter therapy, biofeedback, making love, hypnosis, and exercise, and advises everyone to do at least one every day'.

Staying Young

Balancing hormones is also a part of Dr. Hyman’s program. He notes that in the US, there are three big epidemics of hormonal imbalance: too much insulin (from sugar intake); too much cortisol and adrenaline (from stress); and not enough thyroid hormone. He says that all three interconnect and affect our sex hormones.
“I believe that most of the symptoms of aging we see are really symptoms of abnormal aging or dysfunction that are related to imbalances in our core body systems,” he concludes. Dr. Hyman recommends bioidentical hormones, which he says can be “life-saving” when used correctly.

How the Doctor Stays Well

As a physician who is strongly motivated to solve medical puzzles, Dr. Hyman has paid close attention to his own health since his bout with mercury poisoning. “I have the unique benefit of knowing my particular genetic potholes,” he says, “And I also know I had chronic fatigue and work very hard, so I take a number of supplements to help me deal with that.”
Dr. Hyman’s personal supplement program includes the following:

-Multivitamin
-Fish oil
-Vitamin D3
-Magnesium
-Coenzyme Q10
-Acetyl-L-carnitine
-Methylating nutrients (such as vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid).

Dr. Hyman’s overall wellness plan? “I keep my gut healthy, keep myself free of toxins, and keep my mitochondria healthy. I exercise at least four or five times a week, get enough sleep, eat whole, real food, keep my sugar intake at a minimum, enjoy alcohol as a treat once in a while, and make sure I hit the pause button every day or two.”

A Life With Goals

In his book-The UltraMind Solution, Dr. Hyman writes, “My goal for all of you is to live your life as you were meant to live it—a life full of energy, vitality, pleasure, and happiness.” Noting that, “The brain is not disconnected from the rest of the body as many practitioners of conventional medicine would have you believe,” he hopes to change the way we treat mental problems and help us realize that the causes often lie in places where we haven’t been looking: our diet, nutrient deficiencies, and toxins that have invaded our bodies.

Dr. H's comment

Many of you may hear for the first time-what NLP is.

well, I heard of it about 1 year ago.I have a few books on NLP, such as NLP by Joseph O'Connor & Ian McDermott, Change Your Life With NLP by Lindsey Agness and How To Be Confident Using Power of NLP by David Molden.

To be frank, reading is one thing, but applying the concept..hmmm

But I found the book written by Dr Kamarul above is very simple (90 pages) and practical. In fact I've start to practice (with good outcome) the techniques tought such as Swish Pattern, Anchoring etc.

NLP is all about how we communicate (with ourselves, especially) using specific patterns of language to achieve specific outcomes in life.

Succesful people always mantain their emotion in the POSITIVE states.(Actually we can choose to be happy, sad, depressed etc etc). Yes! we can choose, not the environment which determine our state! How? by learning what NLP is..

So for those interested to know more about NLP, I highly recommend the above book as a good beginning to acquire knowledge about SELF DEVELOPMENT

You can visit the Kamarul's website-http://www.drkamphd.com/Index.html to order the book (only RM 18).

Dr Kamarul will also organise a seminar- EMPOWER YOURSELF THROUGH NLP, TIME LINE THERAPY® & HYPNOSIS (A FOUNDATION COURSE: 2-DAY WEEKEND SEMINAR)

on 28 & 29th March 2009.(please check the details in the website)

Insya-Allah..see you there!

The Chakras-Internal Energy Fields

Internal Energy Fields or Chakras are basically subtle energy fields that run through the body. There are 7 Main Chakras, vertically located from the base of the Spine up to the top of the Head. However although there are many other Energy Fields & Chakras located in every part of the body, all having specific functions, that are usually associated with their location, we will only deal with these main 7 as they are key to our Physical & Mental wellbeing. These 7 Chakras must be in top shape to allow all the others to function correctly.

The descriptions, locations and connections to specific organs are what occurs in most people however different individuals may be slightly different and with most energy fields they also interact with each other. This accounts for the seemingly contradictive specifics published. Mainly due to the healers point of reference is themselves. This does not seem to affect the healing process as healing is in the Chakra and the organ and the higher elements of The Aura automatically knows which Chakra is associated in that individual.

1st The Base or Root Chakra – Colour is Red: It is created at conception and located at the base of the spine. It represents activity in general, such as movement, energy and survival as well as grounding. It connects with the base of the spine and also connects the liver and is associated with most illness. Red is also associated with pain, swelling and inflammation and all heat sensations. When this Chakra is working correctly, we have physical vitality and strength. We feel connected to nature with a deep understanding of nature’s rhythms and patterns.

When disturbed it affects the liver and all adrenal problems. Most major middle and upper back, hip and stability problems are caused by disturbances of the Base Chakra. Long term disturbances can cause chronic back and hip problems.

2nd The Sacral Chakra : Colour is Orange: Created at conception. It's located above the pubic bone. It is connected to the sensuality, sexuality, desire for pleasure, spontaneous enjoyment and feeling of wellbeing. It is connected with the kidneys, the large and small intestine, pancreas, spleen, groin, prostrate and uterus in women . When this Chakra is working correctly, we feel vital, supple, fun loving and have a good sexual desire.

When disturbed it affects our Sacrum – the lower back pain, spleen, sexual problems, bladder and digestive disorders. Disturbances tend to make muscles contract putting stain on major joints linked with the legs and feet, associated with most leg and foot injuries. We feel a lack of focus, lack of vitality, physical rigidity, anger and often anti-social behaviours are magnified.

3rd The Solar Plexus Chakra: Colour is Yellow: Created around the time we are Born. It is located around the navel and the base of the rib cage. Associated with Blood, Lymph System, Hypothalamus. Motivates us to bring about change. Deals with our use of energy and the solar plexus creates change in us as well as around us. It is an organizing type of control centre, that gives us the ability to operate in a more powerful and effective ways. When this Chakra is working correctly, because of the Lymph System, it deals with many different systems of the body, also effects our immune system. It also works in the proper functioning of the nervous system and the skin. Also related with optimism, self-confidence, spontaneity, flexibility, understanding, joy, and laughter. When disturbed it affects The Immune System, Ulcers, hypoglycaemia, stress related ailments, indigestion, auto immune disorders, chronic fatigue and removal of poisons and impurities from the blood and the physical body.
